TROUBLESHOOTING

General Installation Errors
I install HelloEURO and I am told I have invalid data components:
Download the latest Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC-TYPE.EXE) from Microsoft here. or you can download MDAC-TYPE.EXE from this website here.

In addition download the DAO3.6  components from
here. With DAO 3.6  you will be able to use MS Access 2000 database files without the need for MS Access on the users machine. You can use this DAO installation as Ms Access 2000 database drivers for C++, VB, FoxPro and Delphi applications.

I install HelloEURO and a 'DR. WATSON' Error appears:
This is most likely due to a problem with your data access components. Download the latest (MDAC-TYPE.EXE) from Microsoft here. or you can download MDAC-TYPE.EXE from this website here.

Ms Excel Troubleshooting
I cannot 'undo' something in Ms Excel.
Due to issues within MS Excel, HelloEURO cannot offer this facility at this time.

Will HelloEURO convert Macros, Hidden Cells or cells containing ###
No.

When I run a conversion, I cannot get the euro symbol to appear, yet it appears on all my other applications.
In the 'General' tab of the Run Conversion screen, ensure that the euro symbol has been entered into the "Number Format" field i.e. €0.00;€-0.00.

I cannot get the old values to be displayed in the Excel Comment Fields.
In the Run Conversion screen under 'MSExcel' Tab, ensure the field 'Insert OLD value as a comment in cells' is ticked.

When I am converting formulas, I want to be able to select what parts of that formula to convert.
In the Run Conversion screen under 'MSExcel' tab, ensure the field 'Let me choose which values to convert inside formulae' is ticked.

Sometimes when I click Win-F10 to convert within MS Excel, I get a message saying "Set Focus in Window"
Simply click on the top bar of MS Excel to make it blue i.e. to make MS Excel active.

Having run my conversions, they appear in a different font and colour to my normal Ms Excel settings. What can I do to ensure they use the Ms Excel default settings?
In the Run Conversion screen under 'Font Style' tab, ensure the field 'Ignore these Font Settings' is ticked.

When converting in Ms Excel, I want to retain my cell formatting i.e. I don't want to use HelloEURO's format.

In the Run Conversion screen under 'Ms Excel' tab, ensure the field 'Use HelloEURO number format in Excel' is not ticked.

I have a value in Excel £45.2356 and when I convert it the euro result is €57.44. I want my euro result to be displayed to 4 decimal places not 2!

In the Run Conversion screen under 'Ms Excel' tab, ensure the field 'Use HelloEURO number format in Excel' is not ticked.

Ms Excel suddenly shuts down with an 'OLE Object..' error when I press Win-F10 on one of my cells.

The reason for this is that your cursor was still active (flashing) within the cell when you pressed Win-F10. Ensure your cursor is not flashing when selecting your cell and this will not happen.

I want my old values to appear beside my converted values.

In the Run Conversion screen under 'MSExcel' tab, click on the down arrow to reveal the following:

- Replace values in cells

- Move OLD values BELOW selected cells

- Move OLD values to the RIGHT of selected cells

Choose which option best suits.

If I have currency abbreviations beside all my values, do I need to set the 'Default local currency' in the Run Conversion Screen 'General' tab area?

No. You only need to set the 'Default local currency' if you are converting values that have no currency abbreviations. HelloEURO can read the currency abbreviations and convert the values appropriately. However, if there are no abbreviations beside your values then you must tell HelloEURO what currency they are by setting the 'Default local currency' to what is desirable for your conversion.

A note on linked formula between sheets

For example:

Sheet1 has:
100 in cell A1
100 in cell A2

Sheet2 has a formula in cell A1of:
=(sheet1!a1+sheet1!a2)

Action: Convert cells A1 and A2 in sheet1.
Result: A1 and A2 in sheet1 are converted to euros.
The formula A1 in sheet2 is converted to euros however it is not formatted with a euro symbol.. You must format this formula
cell to hold the euro symbol.

Does HelloEURO cater for Hidden Cells?

No

Can HelloEURO convert #### Cells?

No, you must widen your columns.

Can HelloEURO convert Functions written in Visual Basic Application Code?

No

Can HelloEURO convert Locked Cells?

No, they must be unlocked first.

I changed my conversion display to a non-standard font within the 'Font Style' Tab of the Run Conversion Screen and now I cannot see my euro symbol.

Some Font Syles do not support the euro symbol.  Stick to standard fonts e.g. Arial, Times Roman etc.

If I reduce the magnification of my worksheet to 75% or less, the euro symbol is displayed as a vertical line.  Why?

This is not an issue with HelloEURO.  This will happen whether a conversion has been run or not.  Put the magnification back to 100%.

I have figures in Excel that are linked to a graph.  Will the figures be converted on the graph after conversion?

Yes, provided that the automatic calculation box is ticked on in Excel.

Ms Word Troubleshooting

I am trying to convert the amount "DM123" within MSWord and it will not convert.

Ensure you set up DM as being equivalent to DEM isocode in the 'Configure currency prefix/postfix' dialog box under 'Configure HelloEURO' menu option.

I want my old values to appear beside my converted figures.

In the Run Conversion screen under 'General' Tab, select either 'Append' or 'PrePend' from the drop down list at the field called 'Replace/Append/PrePend'.

Sometimes when I click Win-F10 to convert within MS Word, I get a message saying "Set Focus in Window"

Simply click on the top bar of MS Word to make it blue i.e. to make MS Word active.

Database Troubleshooting

I analyse my figures after conversion and they seem to be incorrect.  What's going on?

You probably converted your data twice i.e. ran the conversion on the same field twice. HelloEURO allows you to convert your database data many times. It's up to you to monitor your database information and ensure you convert only once.

Some Database Conversion Pointers:

If you have fields formatted with £ or $ etc., after conversion these symbols will still be displayed i.e. these symbols are not replaced by the euro symbol. You should reformat these fields either before or after conversion.

HelloEURO would obviously rather convert fields formatted as for example Double Integers where decimals are allowed and not whole numbers, because any number when converted to the euro, will have decimal places.

Convert via SQL
Will convert to the maximum number of decimal places allowed by the underlying SQL engine.

Convert via Direct Access
Will convert to the number of decimal places set by you in the field 'Final number of decimal places to round to:' on the 'Run Conversion' screen.

Access 97
Close your Database before conversion.

Long Integer
In the 'Universal Database Converter', on choosing 'Convert Via Direct Access', you must set the ''Final number of decimal places to round to:' to 0

Decimal
Ensure you set the 'Scale' in your Access design to whatever number of decimal places you wish and if you decide to 'Convert via Direct Access' ensure you set the 'Final number of decimal places to round to:' to that number. Failing to do this will result in an error as the database will try to fit the result into the field and may fail e.g. 123.456 will not go into a field of decimal(3,2) you should have rounded to 2 in this case.

Currency Percent
Will be converted.

Other Currency Fields
All currency fields will be displayed to a maximum of 4 decimal places. You may have set the 'Final number of decimal places to round to:' to 6 yet it will only display to a maximum of 4 after conversion. This is down to how Access handles currency fields.

Field names greater than 30 Characters
Will be converted in 'MsAccess Converter' if you use 'Convert via Direct Access'. An error is displayed using the other methods.

Text
Some 'Text' fields may contain numbers, which need to be converted. HelloEURO will not display these fields in Blue for conversion as it reads them as strings. You must change your format for these fields to something like Double Integer.

Euro->Local
Using 'Convert via Direct Access', it uses the 'Final number of decimal places to round to:' to set its number of decimal places to display to.

Single Floating Point Number Field Format:
When for example 100.27 is entered into a Database and then viewed in an external application you can see 100.269996643066. This is because the single floating point number stores as approximations. This happens naturally, nothing to do with HelloEURO Conversions.

Rounding
For information on Rounding; see SQL Rounding in the
‘Database Conversion Pointers’ of the Help.

Converting Euro->Local Troubleshooting

I am trying to convert 123 euros to DEM and it will not convert.

In the Run Conversion screen under 'General' tab, ensure:

- you have selected "Euro -> Local Currency"

- that the 'Default local currency' is set to DEM.

When I am converting euros to Irish Pounds, it converts the amount correctly but the euro symbol still appears beside the amount. How do I get the Irish Pound sign to appear?

In the Run Conversion screen under 'General' tab, ensure you set the 'Number format' field to £0.00,-£.000

General User-Interface Troubleshooting

I cannot get the euro symbol to appear on anything?

Download the appropriate euro fonts from the Microsoft web site or through the HelloEURO 'Benefits' Web Page.

How do I get HelloEURO to ignore measurements e.g. nm etc.

Right click on the HelloEURO symbol in the Taskbar and select 'Configure HelloEURO'. Click 'Next' twice until you reach the 'Configure special symbols' dialog box. Enter 'nm' and tick the 'Ignore' box, if you wish HelloEURO to ignore any occurrences of this.

I would like to be prompted before I convert each amount.

In the Run Conversion screen, under the 'General' Tab ensure the field 'Confirm each conversion' is ticked.

How do I change my conversion Hot Key?

Right click on the HelloEURO symbol in the Taskbar and select 'Configure HelloEURO'. Click 'Next' three times until you reach the 'Configure conversion hot key' dialog box. You can change it here.

All the non-eurozone currencies would seem to have incorrect exchange rates.

You should connect to the Internet and select 'Import Rates from Internet'. This will allow you to download the rates automatically. If you are not on the Internet, then you can either input them manually or use the option 'Import Rates from Network' on the HelloEURO menu.

Does HelloEURO convert amounts such as '125.62 German Marks' i.e. where the currency is written as text?

Yes.

How do I use the HelloEURO Triangulation Calculator?

1 Right click on the HelloEURO symbol in the Taskbar and select 'Triangulation Calculator'.

2 In the 'Local Currency' field select the currency you wish to triangulate on.

3 In the 'Amount to convert' field, enter the amount you wish to see converted.

4 Click the 'Calculate' button.

NETWORK CORRUPTION - WINDOWS '95 ONLY

Microsoft has a bug in vredir.vxd. There exists problems with several versions of the network redirector provided with the Windows 95 Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks that can cause data corruption in DBISAM data files when they reside on a shared Windows 95 server. One of the problems occurs when the network redirector (vredir.vxd) improperly caches server data locally and can cause various problems such as key violation exceptions with auto-increment primary keys and others that should never occur.

The latest version of the network redirector (4.00.1116 dated 9/11/1997) can be found in the Microsoft KB

article at:

Q174371: Possible Database File Damage When Data Is

Appended

If you are experiencing random problems with data corruption when sharing data files in a Windows 95-only environment then please download the updated network redirector and apply the update to all Windows 95 machines on the network. Please note that these problems do not occur when accessing Novell NetWare servers.

THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE - WINDOWS '98

If you haven't done so already, go to the Windows 98 update site and install the Windows Library Update. This update fixes some third party software problems. It might do the trick. You should install this anyway. see

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/default.asp

GENERAL MS OFFICE PROBLEMS

Please ensure you have all the usual patches from Microsoft installed these are available from their home pages at

http://www.microsoft.com The important ones are those concerning the OS and MSOffice.

CANNOT RUN HelloEURO

On NT, Login as a user with administration rights.

Re-Install the application.

Does the error occur when you are logged in with administration Rights?

If not then the problem is with user settings.

Ensure the HelloEURO directory has full permissions.

Ensure the User has read/write access to the registry.

HelloEURO stores its settings under HKLM disabling access to this will prevent the application from running correctly.

Conflicting Application Troubleshooting

Another application is started by HelloEURO or the internet dialer starts trying to connect to the internet.

Upon starting HelloEURO will activate the tcp/ip stack your computer assumes you want to connect to the internet, and vice versa. This is for the currency download from the web option.

It is this action that may trigger Internet Explorer to start dialing the internet or for another TCP/IP application to start up.

Solution:

Disable autoconnect properties of IE and disable the check version in client access properties.

For various terminal emulators e.g. AS400 connection software, depending on the version, somewhere in the

windows control panel, or other settings area, you have the option to automatically connect to the internet, DISABLE it.
